Steering Shaft Coupler; Universal; 1 Inch DD X 3/4 Inch DD; Steel; Single
A U-joint can sometimes be eliminated by using a 2 Inch straight extension, called a coupler, to extend either the steering box, RP shaft or the column shaft. The coupler can be welded and/or pinned to the un-splined end of a shaft. We offer shafts that are splined only on one end in 3 lengths:5 Inch, 16 Inch & 36 Inch. The 1 Inch- 48 & 1 Inch Double D couplers have a 1-1/4 Inch hole that will accept either an adapter to reduce inside diameter to 3/4 Inch smooth or another splined or 3/4 Inch Double D coupler. The coupler assembly would have to be pinned and/or welded together. Welding the coupler is acceptable because there are no moving parts to damage, & the coupler’s steel is less susceptible to heat damage from welding. Couplers are available in the same spline or double D sizes as our u-joints. Couplers & adapters are available in steel & stainless steel.
